It was embarrassing, to start a journey so late. Despite reassurances, it seemed weird, to journey out along a path so many ventured younger, earlier, had the time to be better. I was barely out of formative years myself, still plagued with the insecurities of the age, controlled. Petty grievances, unencumbered by the naive innocence of youth, stoked the fires of fear. Disappointing. Failing. Being Mocked. I could only cling to the only benefit, I was old enough to make my own decisions now, I could do the journey still. Better late... than never right.

I was forcibly enrolled in literature in high school, an attempt to ensure a well rounded education. We dissected the masterpieces of the past, put meaning into the words of dead men. Staring up at the heavy clouds, fat and pregnant with their droplets, it seemed ominous.

He was all flash and no substance, ridiculous but sweet. We got along well enough I suppose. I thought him weak. This little flashy insect, was supposed to help me? Even worse, I had no experience, nothing, why would he choose to stay! Against the ominous clouds, the gleaming purple scales of his peculiar colouring hailed out, like a beacon of hope.

Preposterous, I thought.
Because we made eye contact, we must battle? This little kid, bragging about his numerous caterpie. My gaze wandered to Sparkles, foolishly caught in a flirtation with the flowers decorating the path. Worry set in. I'd never battled before, what if Sparkles lost, I couldn't-

Our Pokemon lay exhausted, no energy to use more moves but neither a victor. I feared we would be trapped in this for years, neither rising above- Until the exhaustion overcame determination and the kid fell asleep where he stood. His caterpie floundered about, unsure what to do next. I cradled the stupidly loyal bug in my arms and left them. They weren't my problem.

Apparently, JJ reserved all his judgement to me. He treated Sparkles with a gentleness I didn't receive. I watched JJ usher the frivolous insect away from some poorly hidden carnivine. Or maybe it was just some very well concealed pity.

I felt immense responsibility for my patchwork little gang. Problems aside, I couldn't let them down when they relied on my decisions, daresay, trusted in my decisions. I had to get creative, I needed to use every resource to make sure I lead them right. If it's one thing school taught me well, it was problem solving. I-I had this.
Two evolutions have occurred by this point:

Sometimes... Frank does some strange things that make me concerned. Two occasions stand out to me, where this distinctly eerie blank expression came across their face, staring in the distance with intense concentration. Sort of like... they were forcing a poo, y'know? On second thought, I remember someone saying that was a sign of a seizure, I might need to ask Nurse Joy about that next I visit a town with a Pokecenter.

Remoraid,Male, PewPewFishIt was an atrocity it was, what kind of name is that! With the weird crunching sound that signaled Frank's activity- possibly stealing some poor Meowths soul- the decision was easily made. This moron had no soul for Frank to steal, it was a match made in heaven.

I'm worried what Frank had was something contagious- Nurse Joy said it may have been nothing- but JJ made the exact same face Frank did. Does he have indigestion? Is he visiting some sort of mind palace where he revisits memories that he disapproves of so he can judge it a second time?? IS HE DYING???
I-I might need to keep a closer eye on him, this is concerning. Three times is a pattern.

We'd made a brief trip to the seafaring town of XX, the port market famous for its herbal remedies. I need to accept that... there... might not be a cure for this strange phenomena.

In the tail end of possibly her Greatest battle yet, Cheddar overflowing with the excess energy of the fight was enveloped in a blinding white light. She'd grown, in size and lost some of her cute soft looks. The battle leaving a mark on her in a way that was both permanent and visible.
